Welcome to School!

Field Trip to Tivoli Island: We had a super day walking to Tivoli Island with the help of Jaedan’s Nanny and Papa, and mom and Anya’s dad, Mark Kodrich. The weather was terrific for a treasure hunt trip. We were nature detectives looking for treasures that tell us about God’s creation. We were also looking for signs of the season of autumn. This week we learned about trees and how the parts of the tree function.

God’s Plans = Good Plans: Together with our 5th/6th grade chapel buddies, we hung brightly colored posters around the building with our GSLS theme bible verse: “I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”  Jeremiah 29:11. We also hung posters with our congregational mission statement: Every day, Everywhere, by Everyone…sharing the grace of the Good Shepherd.  The children love singing the Jeremiah 29:11 song. Perhaps you have heard it at home.

Letter of the Week Tt: We played with trains and talked about trucks. We read the book Train Song.  The children tried tortilla shells and toast We made Tiny Tim out of Model Magic and sang our song about Tiny Tim in the bathtub. Our trip to Tivoli Island for a treasure hunt topped it off! We talked about trees and looked for trees that were tipped over on the island. We discussed the idea that the roots of the trees hold them in place and that if the water washes away too much of the dirt, the tree may tip over.

God’s Good Plan for Joseph: In our bible lesson we saw that despite the evil intentions of his brothers, God used everything that happened to Joseph as a wonderful part of a good plan. We continue to work on the commandments. Encourage your child to retell the story of Joseph using the happy/sad faces. A copy of the story should be in their folder. You could read the story as your child turns the face according to the story.

Tee-ball was a big hit! In P.E. this week we played tee-ball to emphasize the letter Tt.

We practiced batting and running to a single base. The children enjoy playing some organized games. It is entertaining to watch the children do our warm-up exercises.

Phonics/Reading: We now have five letters that allow us to spell more words like log,

hog, got, lot, hot, and tot. We do spelling tests with our letter cards. We read

The Horses Hat. There are several sight words that your child is working on in this book: My, the, and said.  Please return the books for future classroom use.

Fall art projects underway…thanks to Mrs. Westenberg, we were able to move forward with our art projects. She comes in the mornings and often stays to help us with projects. We are creating colorful trees and pumpkins with tissue paper. Watch for our colorful projects out in the hall.

Book-It Program: Forms came home today. Excuse me for starting a bit late. I would encourage your family to participate October-March. Just record how many minutes you read each night to your child at bedtime or any other time. The children will get a reward

though we will be short on days in October. Classrooms Care is another program in which our class reads 100 books then Scholastic will donate 100 books to children in need! I will send more information soon. We can double our efforts and benefit other children too!

Worship the Lord with your family this weekend!
