While the weather outside is frightful…we continue to study the polar regions in the warmth of our classroom. This week we explored the tundra of Alaska through a video with Monty the Moose. Geared for kids using music and movement, the children picked up some new information about plants and animals who live close to the artic circle.

Martin Luther King Jr. inspired us this week to think about peaceful ways to work together with other people. He stressed using our words and deeds to work out problems. This is a meaningful theme for five and six year olds who are practicing peacemaker skills each day.

The Kinder Store opened this week with many items for sale. We thank you for sending in empty containers. The Slaybaugh family emptied their cupboards over the last weeks and filled our store. Deanna (Rachel’s mom) came to spend the day with us on Wednesday and helped get the workers and shoppers organized.

Jesus Chooses His Disciples was our bible study this week.  Jesus has chosen us to be His disciples and helpers too. I challenged each of the children to find a way to be a disciple by being a helper at home. This tied in with the fourth commandment about honoring our parents. I heard one nice report from a parent whose daughter followed through by cleaning the sink and doing dishes first thing in the morning. Each day it is a great privilege to encourage your child to grow as a disciple.

Cc was the letter of the week. Cats, cows and even a collie helped us with our calendar, coloring, clapping and counting! We had a lot of fun tossing them in the air as we counted to 90 with Zero the Hero. We are focusing only on the hard sound of c as in cat.

Cylinders are on the loose in our classroom. The children discovered that you can roll them, stack them, nest them and order them by size. We found that a number of containers in our store are cylinders. Look for cylinders around your house.
