Welcome to School!

December 7, 2007

K-3 Choir sings this Sunday, December 9th for the 10:30 a.m. service.

Please have your child in the music room by 10:10 a.m.

The Nutcracker Ballet was a good cultural experience for the children.

We read the story and saw a video ahead of time which helped the children

interpret the story as it unfolded in dance. The children were attentive as the music and movement were fast. The exciting action comes when the mouse king came on the stage with the BANG! of a firecracker and fought the Nutcracker. We wrote a shared story this week about what each of the children saw and remembered. We thank Joel and Jeaunetta Westenberg for driving and loading/unloading carseats.

Christmas according to the Kindergarten 2007 is a book we are currently illustrating.

Next week the children will dictate the story after having heard a simple biblical account several times.  Each of the children drew five pictures that depict the story. Some of the pictures will be scanned and used during our Christmas program.  This book will be sent home the last week before break.

Advent is a time for waiting…We are getting ready to celebrate a special birthday! Advent is the time when we prepare our hearts for the coming of the Christ Child.

We read a book and took special note of all of the special decorations in church this past Wednesday. Ask your child what kind of Advent decorations they saw this last week during chapel. We made Advent wreaths to help us get ready for the Light of the World!

What Color Is Christmas? is the name of our Advent seek-and-find daily devotion picture booklet. The children will bring the book home before the holidays.

Rojo the Rooster roosted in our room this week to recite our Rr songs and poems.

We have worked on 13 out of the 26 letters in our alphabet. The children are making good progress in their reading. Our program has many activities to help reinforce letter and sound recognition.

Exciting, hands-on math included… Estimating collections, counting by 10’s, identifying and creating ABB patterns with sound and movement, identifying, counting and paying for items with dimes.

Send extra socks, unders and clothing for your child’s box. Often their socks are wet when they come in from recess. They are much more comfortable with dry clothing.

An extra pair of mittens is good also as we may go out twice a day while the snow is deep.

Worship the Lord with your family this weekend!
